*** OUR "$30 PINE BOX" ***

Due To Demand: We sell firewood by the box load for use on camping trips, beach fires, bush parties, evenings in the backyard or by the fireplace. This amount is perfect for those who don't heat with wood, but want the occasional fire. You won't need an axe or saw!

The picture (to the left) shows a firewood box that holds 3' X 2' X 16 inches of seasoned ready to burn firewood. 1 box load can fit in the trunk of a small car. The wood is clean and won't mess up your trunk.

This is an excellent amount of wood for an evening bush/beach party or weekend outing. It is a fair bit of wood for most overnight camping trips, or several nights by the fireplace and is a much better purchase than a bunch of the pre-packaged wood bundles that you find at gas stations. In your open fireplace at home you'll be burning REAL WOOD and not a bunch of chemicals and glues that are in some compressed fire logs.

$30.00 - PER FIREWOOD BOX LOAD - $30.00

If you want 1 or 2 boxes, you can come and get 'em yourself.
Delivery can be arranged, might even be free (call for details).

The splitter and a trailer load of firewood

Firewood is cut to a max. length of 16" or less, and split to usable size. The majority of your load will be approx. 14/15 inches in length. A few longer or shorter pieces may sneak in due to cutting around large knots etc.

Larch and Fir Firewood are the two most desired in our valley. Both give a long burn and good radiant heat. Larch and fir both burn clean with a minimum of ash to clean up. Larch and fir is hard to find, its not found at the side of the road anymore. People out looking to get their own firewood (unless very lucky) usually end up with pine. Fir and Larch are both in short supply.

Pine Firewood makes up the bulk of all the firewood burned in the Okanagan Valley. Pine is easy to come by and because of the pine beetle infestation, it can be found standing dead and already seasoned. Beetle kill pine can often be felled, cut, split and burned on the same day. Pine is OK as firewood, but fir/larch is much better. Pine is plentiful and is much cheaper than fir/larch. Most all firewood for sale in BC is Pine.

The official, standard firewood measure for a full cord of wood is:

Official Full Cord = 4' X 4' X 8' = 128 cubic feet

Official Half cord (truck load) = 64 cubic feet

Note: the above dimensions are for stacked firewood.

Truck load pictured to the right:
6 foot box by 5 feet wide by 2.5 feet deep (minimum) = equals 75 cubic feet (thrown load)
this guarantees a half cord per load.

Note: pictured to the right is a thrown load (fluffy load) and will have less wood per cubic foot than a stacked load. For that reason we add 20% more cubic feet to make sure you get what you pay for.

For a picture of a stacked full cord click here the truck has a standard 8' box and the load is 7' x 5' x 4' equals 140 cubic feet (more than a cord)

WE OFFER CUSTOM STACKING SERVICE
Click on either picture and take a look at a couple of unique custom hand stacked loads of firewood. If you would rather kick back and relax let us take care of tedious job of stacking your firewood.
STACKING YOUR FIREWOOD PROPERLY allows the wood to remain dry and prevent mould from forming. Firewood needs to maintain air circulation. Its not expensive to have us stack your firewood properly! Generally $25 hour. Ask for a quote.

More info about the size of a cord

Above are 3 pictures of a trailer we use sometimes to deliver firewood. The firewood box on the trailer is a measured half a cord of firewood. The box is 8 ft long x 4 ft wide x 2 ft deep.
When the firewood is "hand stacked" in the box (as shown in the pics) it's a full half cord
(8x4x2=64 cubic feet). Any "stacked" pile of wood can simply be measured and do the math and come up with the cubic feet. It takes 128 cubic feet of "stacked" firewood to equal 1 full cord. So next time you're buying firewood simply grab a tape measure and do the math.
If its a
"thrown load" (fluffy load) and just a pile of wood in the back of a pickup, then make sure to measure the size of the pile and subtract at least 20% and you will have approximately the measured amount that's actually there. The thing about thrown loads is that it all depends how it "lands" that dictates the real amount you're receiving. If the trailer in the pics above were to have a "thrown" load instead of stacked as it is, then it would stack out to be probably closer to 45/50 cubic feet (short by approx 20/25%). Thrown loads are usually delivered to cut down on the time and work involved, it takes considerably more time to stack a load. If you're receiving an extra 20/25% in cubic ft measurement to offset the thrown loose load you shouldn't be overly concerned. Be more concerned about the quality! A side note to all this is the fact that a "stacked" load ALWAYS grows or shrinks a little bit depending on how its restacked. Another side note to the side note is that when you stack your wood for the long term where it is going to sit until consumed, it is VERY IMPORTANT that the wood be stacked "loosely" to allow air circulation to help clear any additional moisture and prevent mould from forming. Its common to re-measure the firewood after its been stacked loosely and find its grown larger.
